A dirty man

Well, bloggin' has been pretty slow lately, so much to do so little time! But here's a quick render of my character, now all that's missing is some hair and a little tweaking and then I will consider him finished. Feels like I could go on forever adding things but I have other more fun stuff to do so I got to let him go.

I'm in the middle of a VFX-project now, which pretty much rocks. It's a lot of new things but I'ma do my bestest to make something nice. Klick HERE to see the project!

A lot of school and some other stuff too

Time to update this here blog! It's been a while now, I've had a lot to do with school and some other stuff. Like I made this painting for an awesome stop motion movie that two guys at school are making. They have a blog, check it out! It's going to be really beautiful and I'm really happy I get to help them out.

In school we have a lot of assignments at once, both character and effects. This is a film of our last one, which was to put in some 3D models of a teapot and a cup in some live footage. The problem was that I did quite a bad job tracking the thing so my models skids around like disney on ice. Well, I guess you gotta start somewhere. :)

You can't spell particles without "party"!

Life is pretty sweet right now. I'm taking two new classes; Characters and Dynamics.
In the characters class we've been handed concepts that we're supposed to base our 3D models on. I got a pretty generic main character type of guy, who I named Frank. You can check the progress on Frank out by clicking this here link..

And I also tried out a tutorial on fariedust, using sprite particles, which is featured above. I didn't think I would like dynamics as much as I do, but maaaaan.. I do.

Ingela

So it's time for another portrait. This time of Ingela; my twinsister, best friend and partner in crime.
This was mainly an exercise in determining color and light. The main light comes from an artificial lightsource to the right, there's some purple bouncing of her shirt on to her neck and a strong, almost white light from the back. I also wanted to keep the background out of focus because it ads to realism and it looks pretty cool.
It took about 4 hours.

I don't like to spend too much time on my paintings, because when I do they tend to look too much like those airbrushed portraits that you sometimes see on carnival rides.

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world.. she walks in to mine"

I was thinking: "Casablanca is a pretty sweet movie" and then I painted this. I really like the lighting in that film, and also everything else about it.

Barcelona

Just got back from a short trip to Barcelona, which was an amazing city.
I didn't have time to draw all that much, but the ones I did turned out super advanced!
Notice the lined paper, surely the choice of a pro. The style I used is what one of my teachers disapprovingly would call "beardy lines". The pen I used is a high tech ink pen that I found in our Hostal.

A really fast sketch of my two travelmates.

A monkey. Always a monkey.

A beautiful night down at the harbour in Barcelona. There was some guys playing guitarr. A girl in a white dress passed by and just started dancing to the music.

It was a really inspiring trip, I have lots of ideas for paintings and sculptures now. By the way, I'm staying at my sisters house and I took some pictures of a sculpture I gave her for christmas last year.

My sister doesn't have Photoshop so I had to edit it in good old ms Paint.

It's made of Super sculpy, fabric, string and wood.

Sofia

A portrait of my friend Sofia. One of the most wonderful people I know, and not only because she was patient enough to be my model. She lives in Norway, so I don't get to see her all that often. But this summer we hung out a lot, and she's as freggin awesome as ever. I totally love you, dude!

A girl on a chair

Today's doodle, ca 30 min. I used a cold purple as the dominating color and then put in some hints of warm orange-red to liven things up a little. I'm kind of a sucker for monochromatic color schemes.

Quick sailor painting

A sea captain, ca 1 hour. I started with an orange-red underpainting which brings out the blue tones in the desaturated color palette on top. Yeah, I bought a book on painting color and light so I thought I'd try some stuff out.

ZBrush doodle

It's a sunny day but I don't care. I would rather sit inside by the putie. Yep, I'm a rebel like that.

Yaaargh!

I'm going to a pirate party tomorrow so I felt like painting a pirate.

You know, eye patches are cool and all, but I would probably be much more scared of the pirate who didn't wear one.

Third 3d studio max exercise

It's a shark! I made him purple, the color of danger!
This assignment was to model underwater creatures using imageplanes and get more familiar with the different modelling tools like extrude, inset, cut and all that jazz.

I like Maya, but 3D studio max really has a lot of nice features when it comes to modelling. Like the tools are easy to use and easy to access through a sidepanel instead of hidden away in menus.

Also  the mirroring and smoothing operations are done using modifiers.

In Maya you can just press 3 to see your mesh smoothed, so that's pretty handy. But by using modifiers you can perform several operations and then preview them at once and just as easily go back and continue to sculpt. I'm still a total newb when it comes to Max but I'm starting to like it more and more.

Pink haired girl

Sometimes you just feel like painting a girl. In this case one with pink hair.

My Childroom

This is the very first movie I made in 3D, about a year and a half ago.
The exercise was for a course in modelling, lighting and animation and the end result was going to be a 30 second clip. I wanted to make a room for a little girl living in France in the 19th century. I had a million plans but a lot got scrapped because the time ran out. It was really stressful, and frustrating but also so much fun!

first 3d studio max exercise

So I've started taking a course in 3D studio max over the summer. The first exercise was to make a character using only primitives. I made a little french guy. You can clearly tell that he's french because of his hat.

Right now I feel plenty disoriented trying to navigate inside of 3D studio max. We have only been using Maya at school so my brain screams a little every time I want to perform some simple procedure and I can't find anything.  But I'm sure I'll like it once I'm a little more used to it.

Portrait time!

Summer has come and I've finally had time to sit down and paint some. Todays PS doodle is a portrait of Ron Perlman, ca 5 hours.

I'm not obsessed!

.. ok, I'm a little obsessed, but it's totally not my fault! It's that stupid Game of thrones getting me all hooked. Specifically the character Khal Drogo. Gosh he's awesome. So my wip doodle for today is a little inspired by him. Just a liiiittle.

Lookit, I have a blawg!

Hi there, this is my new blog! Here you will be able to see some of the stuff I make like drawings, digital paintings, 3D-stuff and such. I hope you will enjoy!
